Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has voiced concerns that Boko Haram militants might have escaped from the Maiduguri correctional facility following severe flooding caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam.

The disaster, considered the worst in three decades, displaced over 400,000 residents and claimed more than 30 lives. Reports suggest that up to 200 inmates, including terrorists, may have taken advantage of the chaos to flee.

Governor Zulum expressed his worry in an interview with BBC, while also emphasizing ongoing government efforts to assist flood victims and reintegrate former insurgents into society.
