Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has refuted claims of being married to Judith Austin, his alleged partner with whom he shares two children. Despite the familial ties, Yul insists their relationship revolves solely around skit-making and lacks legal recognition.
The revelation comes amid divorce proceedings initiated by Yul's estranged wife, May, who filed for divorce in August 2023. The legal battle, which has been shrouded in secrecy, faced an unexpected setback during a scheduled hearing at the FCT High Court, Abuja, on March 5. Yul and Judy claimed credit for the halted court session.
May's lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye of Due Process Advocates, has now unveiled the details of the ongoing case, highlighting Yul and Judy's denial of marriage and the assertion that their relationship is a skit-making endeavor.
In Yul's court filing, he dismisses the traditional marriage ceremony mentioned in May's petition, attributing it to the promotion of false information by the Gistlover blog for financial gain. Despite these denials, May's legal team contends that Yul and Judy have admitted to having two children together.
The legal battle takes a complex turn, with May originally considering bigamy charges against Yul before opting for a divorce and pursuing damages for adultery against Judy. May's lawyers stress that the focus remains on grounds of adultery and the subsequent damages claim against Judy.
As Yul and Judy maintain their stance on a non-marital relationship, May asserts that their admission of having children together serves as conclusive evidence of adultery, forming the basis of her petition. The case unfolds against the backdrop of a tangled web of personal and legal complexities, leaving the public intrigued and the legal system poised for further revelations.
