Minister John Owan Enoh critiques Nigeria Football Federation and coach Finidi George over Super Eagles' faltering World Cup qualifying campaign. Directs urgent reforms, including coach evaluation and player recruitment. Plans for former Cameroon coach as Technical Adviser surface amid calls for improved team performance and strategy ahead of crucial matches.

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and head coach Finidi George following the Super Eagles' recent poor performances in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

After the team's disappointing draw against South Africa and a shocking loss to Benin Republic, Minister Enoh convened a meeting with NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Coach Finidi. He issued four critical directives to the NFF, including an evaluation of Finidi George's coaching competence and the Technical Department's effectiveness. Enoh emphasized the urgency of identifying top-tier Nigerian players both domestically and internationally to strengthen the national team.

The Minister's directives, aimed at revitalizing Nigerian football, underscore his commitment to ensuring the Super Eagles' success in upcoming competitive matches. Reports indicate the NFF is considering hiring a former Cameroon coach as Technical Adviser to bolster the coaching setup under Finidi George's leadership.
