The federal government has formed a committee to investigate and resolve the ongoing crisis within the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, revealed this during a visit to the NSITF headquarters in Abuja. He mentioned that he had received numerous petitions concerning issues within the agency. Lalong admitted that he had not been aware of NSITF's existence until he became a minister and that the agency faced various challenges, but he emphasized the importance of addressing these problems for the nation's progress. He acknowledged the agency's achievements but also recognized the complaints surrounding it.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had previously invited top NSITF officials for questioning regarding gratuity payments to the Managing Director, Mrs. Maureen Allagoa. The minister assured that the committee would address these issues and help the agency move forward. He stressed the significance of the ministry and expressed his commitment to resolving any grievances within it.
The committee's formation aims to bring clarity and solutions to the problems within NSITF, which plays a vital role in the labor and employment sector of Nigeria.
