The incident, which left her son with an ear injury, came to light after a video of the assault went viral, prompting the teacher’s dismissal and sparking an ongoing police investigation.

A mother, Mrs. Adenike Okunlaya, has shared the distressing story of how her three-year-old son’s ear was harmed by repeated slaps from his teacher at Christ-Miltos Primary School in Ikorodu, Lagos. The incident occurred on January 6, 2025, when Okunlaya, a fellow teacher at the school, overheard her son’s distress during class. Later, a video of the incident surfaced, showing the teacher slapping the child. Although the boy had previously complained of frequent beatings, Okunlaya did not initially take these reports seriously. However, after seeing the video, she felt compelled to take action and shared it with a friend, leading to its viral circulation.

The school administration reacted swiftly, expressing regret over the incident and reiterating their policy against corporal punishment. The teacher in question was dismissed the day after the video went public, and she was arrested by the police. Okunlaya’s son was taken to Ikorodu General Hospital, where doctors confirmed that his ear had been affected by the slaps.

The family is now seeking justice, with the case being investigated by the police. Okunlaya, a widow who has been raising her son alone since her husband's death three years ago, emphasized that her primary concern is securing justice for her son and ensuring such incidents do not happen again.
