Mr. Urum Kalu Eke, one of the nominees for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board, has declined the prestigious appointment. President Bola Tinubu had submitted Kalu Eke's name and four others for Senate confirmation.
However, Eke chose to skip the Senate Committee's screening process, leading to his non-confirmation. During the committee's report presentation, chaired by Senator Adetokumbo Ashiru, it was revealed that Kalu Eke failed to appear for screening.
The Senate confirmed the other four nominees but faced explanations from Senator Orji Kalu, who disclosed that Eke declined due to ongoing commitments consulting for public and private entities, deeming it potentially conflicting with CBN responsibilities.
Kalu Eke, a former Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings, had a distinguished career in the banking sector, having served as an executive director with First Bank, and worked with Diamond Bank Plc, and Deloitte Haskins & Sells International.
The rejection raises questions about the considerations and potential conflicts nominees weigh in accepting such crucial positions within Nigeria's financial landscape. #CBN #NigeriaFinance #KaluEke
