Controversial musician Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Sam Larry have filed a fundamental rights lawsuit challenging their ongoing detention related to the death of singer Mohbad. They are demanding N20 million in damages and are urging the court to declare their continued detention a violation of their rights. Their detention began in October 2023 when they were arrested in connection with the death of Mohbad.
The police sought an order to remand them for 30 days, but Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun granted a 21-day remand order that lapsed on October 26, 2023, without renewal. The lawsuit seeks their immediate release.
