In compliance with the nationwide strike led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), train services have been suspended throughout Nigeria.
Segun Esan, the secretary-general of the Nigeria Union of Railway Workers, confirmed the association's participation in the strike, stating that no trains are operational.
The strike, initiated in response to the alleged brutality of NLC President Joe Ajaero in Imo state, has garnered support from various sectors.
TUC President Festus Osifo emphasized that the strike will persist until governments fulfill their responsibilities.
Despite court orders restraining the unions, including a federal government order, from embarking on the strike, the labour unions remain steadfast. The Nigerian Railway has joined the nationwide strike, with Esan instructing all railway workers to stay home.
As a result, railway offices, stations, workshops, and premises are locked and inaccessible, marking a significant impact on transportation services across the country.
