Officer Cadet Owowoh Oluchukwu has etched her name in history books, becoming the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, United Kingdom.
At just 24 years old, Oluchukwu joined 134 fellow officer cadets in London for the Sovereign’s Parade, marking the culmination of 44 weeks of rigorous training as part of Commissioning Course 232.
In a statement by the Senior Communications and Public Diplomacy Officer of the British High Commission in Abuja, Atinuke Akande-Alegbe, Oluchukwu's achievement is hailed as a profound honor and a testament to her dedication.
Her journey to this milestone began at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State in 2018, where she consistently excelled.
Rising through the ranks, she was appointed Cadet Lance Corporal in her second year and eventually assumed the role of Company Senior Under Officer Charlie in her fifth year.
Notably, in her fourth year, Oluchukwu achieved academic excellence, earning first-class honors in Biological Sciences.
Oluchukwu's graduation as the 190th Nigerian graduate from RMAS not only underscores her personal triumph but also underscores the enduring partnership between the UK and Nigeria in defense and security.
Speaking on her achievement, Oluchukwu expressed gratitude to her family, mentors, instructors, and supporters, emphasizing her commitment to representing Nigeria with pride and making a positive impact on the world.
Her accomplishment adds to the legacy of Nigerian officers at RMAS, joining esteemed figures like former Nigerian military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, and Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye.
It also highlights the UK's commitment to supporting Nigeria's military education and training, paving the way for more milestones in the future.
