Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, announced the suspension of the planned marriage of 100 girls in Niger state following a meeting with Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkindaji and Emir Mohammed Mu’azu.

The controversial wedding proposal, initially sponsored by Sarkindaji, sparked public outcry, prompting Kennedy-Ohanenye's intervention. After securing a court injunction and reconciling with Sarkindaji, the minister outlined plans to empower the girls through education and skill acquisition, emphasizing the importance of protecting their rights and safety.
