In response to the unfortunate incident on Monday, November 6, 2023, where the national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, was manhandled in Imo State, organized labor has declared a nationwide strike scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
Deputy president of NLC, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, and the deputy president of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), held a joint press conference in Abuja, outlining a six-point demand to the federal government aimed at preventing the impending strike.
The demands include the immediate removal of the Imo State commissioner of police, the area commander, and other state government officials allegedly involved in the brutalization of Ajaero and other workers who were subjected to humiliation during the assault.
