Workers, organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), staged protests at various offices of electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to oppose the recent Band A tariff hike.
In Lagos, demonstrators gathered at the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company headquarters, while in Oyo, they picketed the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company office. Despite police presence to maintain order, protesters demanded a reversal of the tariff within a seven-day ultimatum given to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government warned against reversing the tariff, citing potential repercussions for the power sector, while the International Monetary Fund advised removing electricity subsidies in other bands to safeguard the economy
