The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) remains firm on its decision regarding the March 29 deadline for the second phase of SIM-NIN linkage, dismissing rumors of a deadline extension.
Contrary to reports suggesting an extension, the NCC asserts that the deadline is non-negotiable. An NCC official emphasizes the importance of linking SIMs to National Identity Numbers (NINs) to curb criminal activities associated with unverified SIM cards. The commission highlights instances of individuals with thousands of unlinked SIMs, raising concerns about their intended use.
While providing an extension for verifying NINs submitted by subscribers with four or fewer SIMs, the NCC reiterates its commitment to enforcing the Max-4 rule, limiting subscribers to four lines per mobile network operator. Additionally, discussions are underway to potentially introduce an online application solution for subscribers with failed NIN verifications due to biometric mismatches.
