NFF President Ibrahim Gusau discusses Nigeria's faltering 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, vowing strategic reforms after disappointing results. Despite a promising draw, losses and draws highlight challenges under new coach Finidi George.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed concern over the Super Eagles' lackluster start in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Despite being in a manageable group with Lesotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Benin, and Rwanda, the team has only secured three points from four matches, drawing against Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Lesotho, and suffering a defeat to Benin.
The NFF recently convened an emergency meeting with Sports Minister Owan Enoh to strategize on improving performance. Gusau indicated plans for significant reforms and possibly hiring a technical adviser to support head coach Finidi George.
Amid discussions of potential foreign technical expertise, the NFF aims to revamp operations to enhance Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
