Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua emerged as the winner of the 2023 Miss Universe pageant held in San Salvador, El Salvador. The competition featured 84 contestants from around the world, judged by a panel including model Halima Aden, Carson Kressley, Avani Gregg, Janelle Commissiong, and Iris Mittenaere.
The evening included rounds such as national costumes, swimsuit, and evening gowns. Palacios, expressing her admiration for 18th-century British philosopher Mary Wollstonecraft, emphasized the lack of limitations for women today. Antonia Porsild of Thailand secured the first runner-up position, with Moraya Wilson of Australia as the second runner-up. The top five also included Miss Colombia and Miss Puerto Rico. Palacios takes over from the 2022 Miss Universe, R’Bonney Gabriel of the USA.
