Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, along with his daughter Fatima, faces trial over alleged abuse of office worth N2.7 billion. The charges, brought by Nigeria's EFCC, highlight efforts against corruption.
Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika is set to face trial alongside three others, including his daughter, Fatima, before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
The charges stem from alleged abuse of office amounting to N2.7 billion. This development follows investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into fraudulent contracts awarded during Sirika's tenure.
Despite initially being invited for questioning, Sirika was subsequently detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
The EFCC had been probing the alleged contract frauds while Sirika was in office, with the former minister even meeting with investigators prior to his detention.
The arraignment, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to the EFCC's request to amend the charges.
This case highlights ongoing efforts to address financial malfeasance and uphold accountability within Nigeria's public sector.
