Nigeria has shown progress in the global fight against corruption, according to the latest Corruption Perception Index (CPI) by Transparency International (TI).
The country ascended five places to secure the 145th position out of 180 nations assessed, with an improved score of 25 out of 100 points, up from the previous 24. Despite still falling below the sub-Saharan African average of 33 points, this advancement signifies positive momentum.
The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC) presented the index in Abuja, emphasizing that the CPI gauges the perceived corruption levels in the public sector. While the index doesn't pinpoint specific instances of corruption, it sheds light on public perception.
CISLAC commended Nigeria's anti-corruption agencies, clarifying that the CPI is not an evaluation of their efforts but an overall indicator of the nation's progress in the anti-corruption drive.
