A recent report from the Global Hunger Index (GHI) revealed that Nigeria holds the 109th position out of 125 countries assessed, with a score of 28.3 points. The GHI rankings placed Nigeria ahead of only 17 countries, including Zambia, India, and Timor-Leste.
The report highlighted that Somalia, Burundi, and South Sudan were not ranked, and Belarus, China, and UAE secured the top positions. The GHI, designed to measure hunger comprehensively, considers factors such as undernourishment, child stunting, child wasting, and child mortality.
The report emphasized the multidimensional nature of hunger, urging attention to areas with the highest hunger levels and the need for concerted efforts to eliminate hunger.
The GHI rankings shed light on Nigeria's food security challenges, emphasizing the importance of addressing this critical issue to improve the well-being of its population.
