The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have jointly announced an indefinite strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 3. The decision was made following a joint press briefing held by the union leaders in Abuja. The unions have also called on their state chapters to organize protests across the country.

Previously, there were differences between the NLC and TUC leadership, with only the NLC conducting a two-day warning strike. However, these differences have now been resolved.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, has appealed to the NLC leadership to reconsider the planned strike, assuring them that the Federal Government is committed to addressing the concerns raised by the unions. He highlighted that one of the NLC's major demands, related to the release of the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, has already been met.

The strike action comes in response to the government's failure to address issues such as the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol), which has led to socioeconomic hardships for Nigerians. The unions are determined to push for the government to address these concerns and alleviate the suffering of the people
