President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). This decision is part of a broader reshuffle that unveils a new board and management team, effective December 1, 2023.
Kyari's unexpected reappointment, after serving under the Buhari Administration for about four years, reflects the administration's belief in his ability to navigate the challenges of the global oil economy. Chief Pius Akinyelure joins as Non-Executive Board Chairman, with other experienced appointments solidifying the board.
The reshuffle aligns with Section 59 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, and President Tinubu's emphasis on performance-driven governance, executing an energy policy that leverages existing resources and explores cleaner energy sources.
The new appointments include key figures such as Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya, Mr. Ledum Mitee, Mr. Musa Tumsa, Mr. Ghali Muhammad, Prof. Mustapha Aliyu, Mr. David Ogbodo, and Ms. Eunice Thomas. The President also appointed two Permanent Secretaries, Mrkokon Ekanem Udo for the Federal Ministry of Finance and Amb. Gabriel Aduda for the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
