Telecommunication companies in Nigeria, represented by the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) and the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), are considering increasing prices for data and voice services.
In a joint statement, they highlighted the need for price adjustments due to rising inflation and other economic challenges. Despite substantial investments in infrastructure development, regulatory constraints have prevented price revisions for over a decade.
The operators emphasized the importance of aligning pricing frameworks with economic realities to ensure industry sustainability and investor confidence. Additionally, they called for government intervention to address taxation, regulatory issues, inadequate power supply, and infrastructure vandalism.
Recognizing the critical role of telecommunications infrastructure in national security and socioeconomic growth, they urged the government to designate it as critical national infrastructure and enhance security measures to combat sabotage and vandalism.
