In a statement by the Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Henshaw Ogubike, Matawalle emphasizes the potential consequences of such remarks, labeling them as incisive and destructive. Matawalle defends Tinubu, stating that he is making significant efforts to address the economic challenges facing Nigerians.
The warning comes amidst growing public anger over economic hardship and escalating food prices, with protests reported in several states. Notably, Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde "KWAM1" and Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe, both supporters of Tinubu, express concern over the rising cost of commodities.
The Sultan of Sokoto-led Northern Traditional Council also warns of potential revolts due to increasing poverty, hunger, and insecurity. In response, Tinubu directs the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of grain and orders security agencies to go after food hoarders.
The International Monetary Fund praises Tinubu's measures to mitigate the impact of inflation on living conditions, highlighting the complexities surrounding the economic challenges in Nigeria.
