The Defence Headquarters in Abuja has declared Simon Ekpa, a prominent leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), wanted, along with 96 other individuals from various regions of Nigeria.
Ekpa, known for his control over a faction of IPOB and his role in organizing the Monday sit-at-home protests in the South-East, was listed among those wanted for terrorism, violent extremism, and secessionist activities.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the names and pictures of the wanted individuals.
The wanted list comprises terrorists, bandits, insurgents, and militants from the North East, North West, North Central, and South-East zones. Notable among the wanted persons are Alhaji Shingi, Malindi Yakubu, Abu Zaida, Modu Sulum, and factional IPOB leader Simon Ekpa, among others.
The North West zone accounted for 43 wanted persons, primarily associated with banditry and kidnapping, while the North East and North Central regions had 33 and 21 individuals declared wanted, respectively.
