While swirling controversy surrounding Nigeria's 2024 budget, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has stirred further debate by claiming he received over N1 billion for constituency projects.
The budget has been mired in allegations of misallocation and untraceable funds, with Senator Abdul Ningi's assertion that over N3.7 trillion couldn't be accounted for adding fuel to the fire.
This contentious issue led to Ningi's suspension following Tuesday's House deliberations. During the heated plenary session, Senator Jarigbe Agom of Cross River North disclosed that while some senators received substantial amounts, such as N500 million, others, including himself, received significantly less or nothing. Nwoko, shedding light on the distribution process, emphasized that senators secured funds based on their lobbying efforts rather than entitlements, lamenting the lack of uniformity in allocations.
He defended his receipt of the substantial amount, asserting it was for vital projects within his constituency, such as infrastructure and training programs. This revelation raises further questions about transparency and equity in Nigeria's budgeting process, highlighting the complexities of governance and accountability in the country's political landscape.
