A youth corps member in Lagos has sparked controversy after claiming she received threats from NYSC officials for criticizing President Tinubu’s administration. In a viral TikTok video, she lamented the rising cost of living, questioning the government’s response to inflation and the economic hardship facing Nigerians.
She expressed frustration over the increasing prices of essential goods, including eggs, groceries, and transportation, stating that her NYSC allowance barely covers basic expenses. Additionally, she criticized the condition of Lagos, noting issues like poor sanitation and high utility bills.
Shortly after posting the video, she alleged that NYSC officials started sending her threatening messages, demanding that she take down her post. In another video, she shared a recorded phone call in which a supposed NYSC official berated her, warning her to remain silent. Screenshots of messages she posted on Instagram revealed that officials had sent her details, further intensifying concerns about her safety.
Despite the pressure, she refused to delete her content, arguing that doing so would erase evidence of the alleged threats. She emphasized that she merely voiced her grievances and exercised her right to free speech, questioning why she was being treated like a criminal.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions from Nigerians, with many expressing concern over the alleged intimidation. NYSC has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
