Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to communicate their grievances over the country's hardships responsibly and maturely. Speaking at the 29th pre-Ramadan lecture organized by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Muslim Alumni, Shettima, represented by Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, his special adviser on political matters, asserted that the current administration would have opted for easier alternatives to recent policies if feasible.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the nation, Shettima highlighted the stark realities resulting from past decisions, such as the rising cost of living and skepticism about economic growth. Despite the difficulties, he stressed that the government is compelled to implement certain policies, acknowledging their disproportionate impact on the poor.
"Our administration does not intend to make the lives of Nigerians more difficult, nor do we claim that the change in direction can be achieved without pain or sacrifices," Shettima asserted. He appealed to UNILAG alumni to create space for the administration to achieve its goal of national transformation, recognizing the necessity of informed criticism for progress.
The Vice President also expressed awareness that the upcoming Ramadan would pose severe challenges for many Nigerians. In conclusion, Shettima urged citizens to responsibly voice their concerns, emphasizing the collective effort required to address the nation's issues and bring about positive change.
