Journalist Daniel Ojukwu, detained by police since May 1, is released following public outcry. His ordeal, initially shrouded in mystery, garnered attention from civil society groups and prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar.
Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), has been released after being detained by the police since May 1. His whereabouts were unknown for 48 hours until it was revealed he was held at the state criminal investigation department in Lagos and later transferred to Abuja.
Ojukwu's detention stemmed from a story on contract procurement by the office of the senior special assistant to the president on sustainable development goals. Despite calls for his release from various quarters, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and civil society organizations, stringent bail conditions were initially given.
A protest was organized by civil society organizations at the force headquarters in Abuja demanding Ojukwu's release.
