The abducted Kuriga schoolchildren in Kaduna State have been released after about 16 days in captivity, according to Governor Senator Uba Sani's announcement on Facebook.
The children were kidnapped from LEA Primary School Kuriga and Junior Secondary School Kuriga town by bandits, leading to national uproar.
The state governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Nigerian Army for their efforts in securing the children's release.
Although it was initially reported that 287 students were abducted, the actual number was 138, with one victim reported dead in captivity.
The remaining 137 have been released and are receiving medical attention, with no confirmation regarding the payment of ransom.
