Enyimba FC has officially announced that former Super Eagles star Finidi George will take the reins as the interim head coach for the Nigerian national team, leading them in their upcoming international friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.
This confirmation follows the vacancy left by Jose Peseiro's departure after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Initially, speculation swirled around the potential appointment of the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation as an interim boss, alongside Finidi, the former Ajax winger.
However, Enyimba FC's website has now confirmed Finidi's temporary departure from his current managerial role to lead the Super Eagles. The 52-year-old coach brings extensive experience, having served as one of Peseiro's longest-standing assistants for 22 months. His familiarity with the team is deemed advantageous as Nigeria prepares to face Ghana and Mali.
The Super Eagles have commenced preparations for the matches, with their camp set up in Marakech, Morocco, and ten players already confirmed to have joined. The upcoming clashes against Ghana on March 22nd and Mali on March 26th mark significant encounters in Nigeria's football calendar.
As discussions surrounding Finidi George's appointment continue, fans are encouraged to share their opinions on whether he is the best candidate to lead the Super Eagles against Ghana and Mali
