Nigeria's first female major-general, Aderonke Kale, has passed away at the age of 84. The news was confirmed by E. O. Okafor, president of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), who expressed deep sorrow over the "irreparable loss." While the cause of her death remains unclear, it is reported that Kale died in London on Wednesday. Born on July 31, 1939, she initially trained as a medical doctor at the University of Ibadan, later specializing in psychiatry at the University of London. Joining the Nigerian army in 1972, Kale ascended through the ranks, achieving the position of major-general in 1994 before retiring in 1997.

Her legacy as a trailblazer in Nigeria's medical and military history is remembered, and the nation mourns the loss of this iconic figure. Burial arrangements are yet to be announced by her family. Aderonke Kale, survived by her husband, Professor Oladele Kale, and five sons, including Yemi Kale, the former statistician-general of Nigeria, leaves an indelible mark on the nation. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
