Organized labor in Nigeria, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has issued a stark warning to Nigerians to prepare for a total and indefinite nationwide strike beginning October 3, 2023. This strike is in response to the government's refusal to address the hardships caused by the removal of fuel subsidies.

Leaders of these labor unions across various states have emphasized their commitment to the strike, urging citizens to stock up on essential items to mitigate the impact of the shutdown. They express frustration over the government's failure to provide measures to ease the suffering caused by the subsidy removal since May 29, 2023.

In several states, union leaders have mobilized their members to ensure a complete shutdown of activities. This industrial action is seen as a collective effort to demand a better quality of life for Nigerians affected by the fuel subsidy removal.

However, the police in Lagos State have warned that any attempt to use the strike as an opportunity for causing unrest will be met with legal action. They assure residents of their safety and readiness to prevent any disruption of law and order in the state.
