The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is exploring the possibility of sending its president, Joe Ajaero, abroad for medical treatment following injuries sustained in Imo State. Benson Upah, the media head of NLC, disclosed that discussions about arranging a foreign medical trip for Ajaero are taking place due to his deteriorating health.
Ajaero was reportedly arrested by heavily armed police officers in Owerri, Imo State, and subsequently beaten and blindfolded, according to NLC reports. He was then taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) for medical treatment.
The Imo State Police Command disputed the arrest, claiming they took Ajaero into protective custody to prevent a mob lynching. The altercation reportedly occurred during Ajaero's attempt to picket the airport in Imo. The NLC is now contemplating sending him abroad for medical attention.
