The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has vehemently criticized the recent judgement delivered by the Kano State Election Petition Tribunal, which resulted in the removal of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office. The tribunal's decision, which declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Yusuf Gawuna as the winner, has been characterized by the NNPP as a grave miscarriage of justice.
Abba Kawu Ali, the Acting National Chairman of NNPP, expressed strong disapproval of the tribunal's ruling, asserting that it unjustly deducted 165,663 votes from the NNPP's result in a questionable move to award victory to the APC. He further characterized the judgement as "laughable" and a direct affront to constitutional principles.
Ali made it clear that the NNPP intends to appeal the tribunal's decision, signaling their commitment to pursuing legal avenues to contest the outcome.
In the wake of the verdict, Ali called upon the party's supporters and the citizens of Kano State to maintain their composure and abide by the rule of law. The judgement, delivered by a three-man panel, directed the withdrawal of Governor Yusuf's certificate of return and the issuance of a new certificate to the APC candidate, citing 165,663 votes as invalid due to the lack of proper stamping and signing on the ballot papers
