The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has accused President Bola Tinubu of lacking interest in security matters, emphasizing that his focus is solely on the economy.
Professor Usman Yusuf, a prominent NEF member, criticized Tinubu's apparent disinterest in security matters during an interview on Arise Television. Yusuf asserted that Tinubu's actions, statements, and overall demeanor reflect a prioritization of economic concerns over security issues, labeling security challenges, including banditry, as mere irritants to the president.
He further expressed concern about the lack of hands-on involvement by the president in security matters and raised questions about the military's independence, urging civilian oversight.
Yusuf also called for an impartial inquiry into the recent bomb attack in Kaduna, arguing that the military cannot investigate itself.
He proposed the establishment of an independent judicial panel, led by a retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, a former defense chief, traditional leaders, and religious figures committed to safeguarding the interests of the people.
