The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced a significant shift in its operational base, planning to relocate certain units from Abuja to Lagos.

This decision mirrors recent moves by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to transfer departments and offices to Lagos.

In a memo dated February 14, 2024, signed by NUPRC Executive Commissioner Dr. Kelechi Ofoegbu, the commission cited the move as a strategic step to enhance service delivery, reduce operational costs, and optimize assets in Lagos. Dr. Ofoegbu has called on each department to identify units capable of independent operation, readying them for the transition.

This development coincides with mixed reactions surrounding the decisions of both the CBN and FAAN to relocate from Abuja to Lagos
