Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed no regrets about supporting Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections. Wike reaffirmed his loyalty at a Thanksgiving service, emphasizing that he would repeat his support if the opportunity arose. Tinubu acknowledged Wike’s crucial role in his victory.

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has firmly stated that he does not regret endorsing Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. Speaking at a Thanksgiving service in Ahoada East LGA, Rivers State, on Thursday, Wike, who was the Governor of Rivers at the time, reiterated his support for Tinubu, despite the shift from his initial allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In the election, Wike’s backing helped Tinubu secure 231,591 votes in Rivers, far outpacing Atiku Abubakar, who garnered 88,468 votes.

Wike emphasized that he would support Tinubu again if given the chance, saying, "I have no regrets. I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing." Tinubu, in turn, recognized Wike’s pivotal role in his victory, acknowledging that his success would not have been possible without Wike’s structural backing. As a result, Tinubu appointed Wike as the FCT Minister shortly before his inauguration in May 2023.

While Wike’s tenure has been marked by controversy, especially regarding demolitions in the capital, Tinubu has praised his work. The president referred to him as a "performing minister" and acknowledged his efforts to improve the FCT. Despite the ongoing debates, Wike’s actions reflect his continued commitment to supporting the current administration.
