Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced the revocation of 167 plots of land in several high-end districts of Abuja, the nation's capital. The affected areas include Maitama, Gudu, Wuye, Katampe, Katampe Extension, Wuse 2, Jabi, Utako, Idu Industrial Zone, and Asokoro. The highest number of revoked plots, 41, was in Wuye, while the second-highest, 39, was in Asokoro.
The FCT administration issued a notice explaining that the plots were revoked due to the failure or refusal of their allottees to develop them. The notice cited Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978 as the basis for the revocations.
Some notable individuals and organizations were among the allottees whose plots were revoked, including Peter Gregory Obi, Liyel Imoke, Musa Aboki Egu, Hassan Hadejia, Ishaya Baba, Sam Nda-Isaiah, Donubari Josephine Kogbara, Julius Berger Nigeria, Honeywell Construction, BUA International, Uffot Joseph Ekaette, Shittu Mohammed, Udoma Udo Udoma, Kanu Agabi, Niki Niki Tobi, and Ishaku Bello, among others.
Wike, upon assuming office, pledged to restore the master plan of the territory and revoke plots that had not been developed or those whose ground rents had not been paid for years. He provided a two-week grace period for allottees to pay their ground rents or risk revocation of their allocations.
