Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, accused certain PDP governors of hypocrisy for secretly supporting President Bola Tinubu while publicly criticizing him. Wike addressed these remarks during a state congress in Port Harcourt, emphasizing the importance of integrity and character in political leadership.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has leveled accusations against certain governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming they are disingenuous in their dealings with President Bola Tinubu. During a PDP state congress in Port Harcourt on August 31, Wike stated that these governors show support for Tinubu in private while publicly expressing opposition.
Wike criticized this behavior, remarking, "They love the president at night but say a different thing during the day." He used the occasion to reflect on his own controversial decisions during the last presidential election, citing the PDP's failure to adhere to principles of justice and fairness as his motivation for not supporting the party.
"I didn’t hide it in 2023 when I said I would not support PDP for the presidential election. I have no regrets," Wike asserted. He contrasted his approach with that of other governors, emphasizing that he has always been forthright. "Be a man of character, stand so that people will know that this is who you are," he added, challenging those who shift their positions depending on the audience.
Wike further criticized those who supported candidates who ultimately lost, implying that their lack of integrity was evident. His remarks highlight the ongoing divisions within the PDP and the complex dynamics of Nigerian politics as leaders navigate relationships with the current administration.
