The NYSC has withdrawn corps members from Mbaa community in Benue State following deadly attacks by suspected herdsmen. Over 20 people were killed, prompting NYSC to prioritize safety. Officials confirm all members are accounted for and continue working with security agencies to ensure protection. Parents are urged to stay informed.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has pulled its members from the Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State following a series of violent attacks by suspected armed herdsmen. The attacks, which left over 20 people dead, including 16 farmers found in River Katsina-Ala, have heightened security concerns in the region.

NYSC’s Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations in Benue, Yahuza Adamu, confirmed the decision, emphasizing the safety of corps members as a top priority. He reassured parents and guardians that all members deployed in the area were safe, and that none had been stationed in the affected community since the violence began.

A headcount conducted by NYSC officials in Kwande verified the safety of corps members, particularly those in Jato Acka Turan, a location far from the crisis zone. Adamu stated that NYSC continues to collaborate with security agencies to monitor the situation and ensure the protection of its members.

He reiterated NYSC’s commitment to taking proactive steps to mitigate risks, assuring the public that no corps member would be placed in danger. Parents and guardians were urged to rely on official NYSC communication channels for accurate updates regarding deployments and safety measures.

The withdrawal highlights the escalating security challenges in parts of Benue State, where communities have repeatedly suffered from violent clashes linked to herdsmen attacks.
