Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi will defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) next week, the Kwankwasiyya movement has told TheCable. Spokesperson Habibu Mohammed said discussions with the NDC have reached "about 90 percent" and that the defection will happen on Monday or Tuesday. The decision followed a unanimous endorsement by stakeholders from all 44 LGAs in Kano.
Ket Points:
- The lingering ADC leadership crisis tipped the scales toward defection.
- The Supreme Court returned the ADC leadership dispute to the federal high court.
- Mohammed said, "Staying in ADC would amount to waiting for Godot."
- Obi has not attended any ADC meetings since the Ibadan summit.
- Supporters of the "OK Movement" had earlier launched a joint ticket campaign.
The defection would be a major blow to the ADC's 2027 ambitions.
