PDP governors have endorsed Sunday Udeh-Okoye as national secretary, backing a court ruling that dismissed Samuel Anyanwu’s claims. Despite ongoing legal battles, the governors urged the party’s leadership to implement the judgment. The PDP BoT has also formed a panel to mediate the escalating leadership crisis.
Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their support for Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s national secretary, backing a recent Court of Appeal ruling. The announcement came after a meeting in Asaba, Delta State, as the PDP grapples with internal leadership struggles.
The conflict arose when Udeh-Okoye was nominated to replace Samuel Anyanwu, who became the party’s governorship candidate in Imo State in 2023. Anyanwu resisted removal through legal actions, but in December 2024, an appeal court ruled in Udeh-Okoye’s favor, dismissing previous injunctions. Despite this, Anyanwu has since escalated the matter to the Supreme Court.
Tensions peaked when Udeh-Okoye was barred from attending a PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja, leading to a confrontation at the party’s secretariat. Amid the turmoil, the PDP governors urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to implement the court ruling and recognize Udeh-Okoye.
As the party navigates this crisis, resolving the leadership struggle remains uncertain, with both factions holding firm to their claims.
