PDP-GOVERNORS (1).webp
PDP governors met in Ibadan, rejecting coalition talks and sidelining Anyanwu and Udeh-Okoye in the party's leadership race. They named an acting national secretary and pledged support for Rivers Governor Fubara. A national convention is scheduled for August in Kano to solidify the PDP’s 2027 election strategy.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors' Forum convened in Ibadan, Oyo State, to deliberate on the party's strategy for the 2027 general elections. The forum emphasized that the PDP does not require a coalition with other parties to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC). Instead, the party aims to attract individuals and groups committed to democratic governance.

The governors also addressed internal party matters, including the position of National Secretary. Following a Supreme Court ruling, the forum resolved that the Deputy National Secretary will act as National Secretary until a substantive appointment is made from the South-East zone. Additionally, the forum expressed unwavering support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amidst ongoing political challenges in his state.

Looking ahead, the PDP plans to hold its national convention in Kano from August 28 to 30, 2025. A National Convention and Zoning Committee has been established to coordinate preparations for the event.
