The Labour Party's 2023 presidential election candidate, Peter Obi, and the Obi/Baba-Ahmed Presidential Campaign Organisation have disclosed their financial details, revealing expenses and donations. Aisha Yesufu, Chairman of the Fundraising Team, presented a report stating that the organization spent over N744.5 million on litigation, emphasizing transparency and accountability. Donations from well-meaning Nigerians amounted to N595,976,994.
The fundraising efforts extended to strategic blueprints supporting Peter Obi and Datti Ahmed, with direct and indirect aid to over a hundred support groups nationwide. Despite financial constraints, media campaigns reached 11 million people through radio stations, community outreach, and social media.
The breakdown of expenses includes N258,374,330 for campaign materials distributed across 36 states, N16,432,867 for media and radio broadcasting, N10,808,948 for election promotion, and N324,381,700 for Polling Unit Agents. Legal expenses accounted for N744,500,000, and campaign and election activities incurred over N28,500,000.
The report underscored the judicious use of funds and acknowledged the N800,000,000 contribution from Peter Obi himself. The disclosed financial details aim to uphold transparency and provide donors with a comprehensive understanding of the organization's financial activities.
