Presidential candidate Peter Obi, representing the Labour Party, has expressed deep concern over the disturbing discovery of decomposing, headless bodies in Abia State, Nigeria, linking this gruesome find to the overall security crisis plaguing the nation. The distressing incident was initially reported by Governor Alex Otti of Abia, who disclosed that more than 80 bodies, including approximately 20 headless corpses and numerous human skeletons, were uncovered in the vicinity of the Lokpanta cattle market situated on the Umunneochi axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.
Obi took to social media to condemn these horrific acts, characterizing them as barbaric and cruel manifestations of the escalating insecurity across the country. He commended Governor Otti for taking a bold stance against insecurity and urged other leaders to follow suit. Obi also shared his own experience as the former governor of Anambra State when he confronted a similar crisis in 2013.
Highlighting the paramount importance of securing lives and property, Obi called upon governments at all levels to intensify their efforts in combatting insecurity to foster meaningful national development. He underscored that security is a fundamental duty of government and a prerequisite for the progress the nation aspires to achieve
