Former Vice President and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, took to social media to advocate for fiscal responsibility, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to utilize public funds for private journeys.
The call comes in the wake of Tinubu's reported private visit to Paris, France. Obi emphasized that the President, as a public national asset, should disclose all movements of public interest.
He asserted that private trips, like the current one, should be funded by Tinubu personally, aligning with the nation's need for cost-cutting measures to address various issues, including the maintenance of critical public assets.
Obi raised concerns about dysfunctional infrastructure, such as escalators and elevators at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, and called for drastic cuts in governance costs for the betterment of public goods. While acknowledging Tinubu's recent efforts to reduce travel costs, Obi suggested that more substantial measures were required to address the nation's challenges effectively.
