Ganduje leads the APC National Working Committee to Buhari’s Kaduna residence, hours after the opposition leaders’ visit. The timing has sparked speculation about political alliances, especially amidst concerns over the CPC faction’s future in the APC. Buhari affirms his commitment to the party despite mounting rumors of shifting alliances.
Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and key members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna on Friday. The timing of this visit is particularly noteworthy, as it took place just hours after opposition leaders, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, made their visit to Buhari.
During the opposition's visit, which included prominent figures like former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Aminu Tambuwal, and former Minister Isa Pantami, El-Rufai quickly clarified that the purpose of their meeting was not politically motivated, urging critics not to read too much into it. He emphasized that it was simply a gesture of respect and not part of any coalition talks or negotiations.
While the details of the APC NWC’s visit remain unclear, it comes on the heels of other high-profile visits to Buhari, including one by APC governors led by Hope Uzodimma. The APC delegation recently visited Buhari to offer their Sallah greetings and acknowledge his contributions during Ramadan. However, this increased attention on Buhari has led to growing speculation about the future of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the faction of the APC to which Buhari belongs to. Though there have been rumors of a split, Buhari has firmly stated that he remains committed to the APC.
