In the wake of the recent crisis in Mangu local government area of Plateau state, the Muslim community grapples with profound loss as 16 victims are laid to rest. Local government Chairman and leader of the First Aid Group of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI-Aid Group), Malam Jafaru Musa, reveals that the funeral prayer unfolded at Mangu Central Mosque under heightened security measures.
The deceased, including a newborn baby, find their final resting place at the Hayin Layir graveyard, marked by a mass burial. Musa fervently prays for Allah's mercy upon the departed souls. The aftermath of the crisis has left numerous people displaced, urgently requiring humanitarian assistance such as food, water, medicine, clothes, blankets, mats, and mattresses.
Despite relative peace in Mangu, security personnel are actively patrolling the area. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Red Cross, led by state chapter chairman Nurudeen Husaini Magaji, has established three Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Mangu town, as others seek refuge in neighboring communities in Bauchi State.
The crisis, which erupted on Tuesday, has resulted in a tragic loss of lives and the destruction of homes. The community now grapples with the immediate challenges of both burying their dead and providing for the displaced.
