Abia State House of Representatives member Alexander Ikwechegh faces police questioning after allegedly assaulting Bolt driver Stephen Abuatseya during a delivery dispute. The incident, which occurred in Abuja, has raised concerns over the conduct of public officials and their accountability to law enforcement.

Abia State House of Representatives member Alexander Ikwechegh is currently under scrutiny by the FCT Police following an incident where he allegedly assaulted a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuatseya. The confrontation occurred on October 27, 2024, in Abuja's Maitama district while Abuatseya was delivering a package to Ikwechegh.

The lawmaker arrived at the FCT Police Command at 2:50 PM to face questioning by Police Commissioner Tunji Disu. The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement signed by spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh. Preliminary investigations suggest a dispute arose over the delivery method, which escalated to physical violence against the driver.

The statement also highlighted Ikwechegh's troubling response during the altercation. After allegedly slapping Abuatseya, he reportedly dismissed the driver's concerns with the remark, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” showcasing a lack of respect for law enforcement.

The FCT Police Command condemned such behavior, emphasizing the importance of not using the Inspector General's name or office to intimidate citizens. Currently, Ikwechegh remains at the Maitama Police Station as investigations continue into the matter. The case has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of public officials and their accountability to the law.
