Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has spoken out from hiding, sparking fears of self-harm as he pleaded with the Ogun State Government to release his detained associates.
Portable went into hiding following an altercation with officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA), who attempted to seal his Odogwu Bar and restaurant over permit violations. The singer accused the officials of storming his premises, arresting over 20 people, and seizing their belongings. However, the state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning dismissed these claims as false.
Following the incident, the Ogun State Police Command arraigned nine of Portable’s associates on multiple charges, including assault, obstruction, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The defendants, aged between 19 and 28, pleaded not guilty and were granted bail at ₦5 million each. The case was adjourned until March 17.
On Saturday, Portable posted an emotional plea on Instagram, denying all assault allegations and challenging authorities to provide video evidence. He claimed he was being “set up” by unknown individuals and expressed distress over his associates’ detention, emphasizing that they were apprentices learning trades.
The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner further lamented the hardships he has endured, stating that he is overwhelmed by the situation and contemplating suicide. He pleaded with the government to intervene, insisting he had done nothing wrong.
His emotional outcry has sparked widespread concern among fans and the public.
