The presidency, through Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 elections, suggesting that he should seek another "worthwhile vocation" since Nigerians have deemed him unfit to lead the country. This response comes after Obi raised concerns about the integrity of the Supreme Court during a press conference in Abuja, following the court's affirmation of Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 election.
Onanuga's statement expressed bewilderment at Obi's claims and described his belief in winning the election as a "grand delusion." The presidency highlighted that Obi ran a divisive campaign, creating divisions along religious and ethnic lines, and questioned his ability to lead a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society like Nigeria.
The statement also criticized Obi for making false allegations of rigging and electoral malpractices without providing evidence. It emphasized that judicial decisions are based on evidence, precedents, and the rule of law, not public opinion or sentiment.
The presidency concluded by advising Peter Obi to find a different occupation, as he had been rejected by the majority of Nigerians who did not see him as a qualified leader for the country.
